Dear Friends and Neighbors,
Thank You
We tried out best. The people have spoken. Although the outcome is not what we had hoped for, we believe we made a difference.
We stirred some debate where there was none.
We brought to the fore some of the most urgent and unspoken problems New Yorkers face such as the ballooning long term structural debt being behind the MTA service cuts, unsustainable borrowing from the pension system to pay the pension system (among other pension abuses), and a state budget that is at risk billions in revenue. We talked about the need for election law and campaign finance reform -- free of loopholes -- to create the kind of competitive elections that will engage New Yorkers, get commitments from our representatives and make them more accountable to the public. We even called out the NY Press for not doing their part to inform New Yorkers of their democratic choices and the deeper issues underlying many of our woes.
None of this could have been done without you.
I want to thank each and every one of you who made this possible. Thank you to my supporters, my volunteers, my contributors, and to a very patient and supportive family. Thank you.
I look forward to working with all of you for a better New York and Brooklyn. My commitment remains the same.
Here's why: last night, at about 7 PM in Park Slope by PS 321, a mom and her son on the way to vote told me with great enthusiasm, "We're here because we met you campaigning." In Gowanus, so many expressed how happy they were to see me campaigning because they rarely see candidates or elected officials. I told them I would be back.
And if you can ...
To cover some last minute "Get Out The Vote" expenses, contributions would be very helpful and greatly appreciated.
