In wake of Fall 2007 hate crimes in Brooklyn Heights and Columbia University, submitted to NYC comprehensive proposal for city-level umbrella/outreach office on peace and non-violence called PeaceNYC (Click here to read both proposals). He has participated in The Dialogue Project and is a Member of Marty Markowitz's Teen Violence Task Force. With teen violence on the rise and the recent hate crimes in Carroll Gardens near Luquer Street and Hamilton Avenue, Doug's understanding of the problem is vital for a representative and safer neighborhoods.
Doug advocates violence prevention through education programs for at-risk youth that are proven to reduce this epidemic. In order to be more effective, Doug believes in the vision of the BP's Teen Violence Task Force that we must mandate statewide Healthy Relationship Curriculum in Health Class. To not mandate this curriculum is to mandate violence in the lives of our children coming of age.
