Today I read in horror a Daily News article about a 16 year old Boeum Hill teen who was ruthlessly shot 4 times and killed outside the Cuyler-Warren Street Church.  Her name is Al-Taya Conyers.

My thoughts and prayers are with Al-Taya's family and friends.  She sounded like a bright and sweet young lady.  I am certain she was a beautiful person in so many ways and meant so much to so many.

Violence saddens me to no end because I know we can do more to stop it.  And as a father of a 9 year old girl, Serena, it deeply concerns me.  So much so, I wrote a proposal in 1997 to address this pandemic problem and now sit on Marty Markowitz's Teen Violence Task Force.  Here's the proposal:

We cannot move on like we didn't lose Al-Taya.

Sincerely,

Doug Biviano
