Problem: High-Stakes Testing in Grades K-2nd.
Solution: End it statewide. Instead, use funds to keep teachers in the classroom to maintain smallest class size possible given the massive school cuts already announced in this economic crisis.
Doug says not now, not ever! NYC's Education Chancellor Joel Klein is at it again implementing costly high-stakes testing and overly complex grading schemes, but this time to test KINDERGARTEN through 2nd GRADE. Chancellor Klein wants to spend millions implementing tests to the youngest of our children despite massive budget cuts to schools in the greatest recession since the Great Depression. It makes no sense. The DOE already knows what schools are broken.
NYC Public Advocate says this waste in high stakes testing costs us 1,038 teachers in the classroom every year.
As a State Assembly Member, Doug will introduce legislation preventing NYC's Klein from implementing his misguided K-2nd testing plan. Also, Doug will regularly visit during school hours at ALL of the publicly funded schools in the district to make sure the political will and attention needed for great schools are at the forefront.
